Pizza (and cannolis), nights spent catching up on The Bachelor (I’m to blame for this) and The Walking Dead. Hot cups of tea. My mom’s emails documenting all the cool things she’s found thrifting. Ethiopian food date night followed by bucket-sized bowls of fro-yo. Falling asleep on “the family bed” which is what we have named our couch on account of how many times we fall asleep on it and how many times we wake up surrounded by kitties. Having long bitchfests with old friends and also talking trash tv — because really, if there’s one way to feel better about yourself it’s by watching crap tv. Cuddling with kitties day and night. This is my recipe for happiness.
Plus, it’s Friday. Thank goodness for that.
Photos taken a long time ago at Fort Mackinac. These costumes were meant for kids, btw.
…at least we have each other.

I am willing it to be Spring.
Because it’s warm(ish) and sunny outside and I am wearing (new) sandals! And I bought a summery dress today. And I’m ready for it to be warm!
Sorry Work, you will get delayed yet another day while I daydream of camping trips, dripping ice cream, melting on the beach, long summer evenings, wearing anything but boots, and weekend excursions.
Winter, I love you, always have, always will, but I’m just sick of wearing sweaters and socks and dry skin and not being able to eat outside.
Spring, hope this means you are here to stay for a while?
– One of my best pre-hubby Valentine’s Day was shared with fellow single friends, eating BBQ and watching crappy movies.
– Our first Valentine’s Day together as a couple Sly and I went to Yosemite and ate Vday dinner at the Ahwahnee.
– While digging through some old blog archives, I found this gem.
– Last Vday we ate Shabu Shabu at a nearby restaurant. It must have been pretty warm because I was wearing sandals (?!)
– I hate getting boxed chocolates, teddy bears, and flowers and I hate the color pink. I’m just not that type of girl. (I’ll take cards + jewelry though.)
– I also hate conversation hearts. Who eats those?
-Same goes for chocolate covered strawberries.
– Speaking of which, I think the only time I ever ate chocolate covered strawberries was on the last day of our honeymoon (gift from hotel).
– This V day there is lots and lots and lots of snow. We had a snow day yesterday and Sly and I had snowball fights and built a creepy snowman
– So Sly got me a snowboard for Vday (to replace the TWO lost/stolen in the world’s worst move ever. Grrr.) Best Vday gift ever.
– We are planning on snowboarding this weekend if we can dig our way out of all this snow. Fingers crossed.
-4 years + 1 day ago we got engaged
happy valentine’s day!
(no offense to bucket list fanatics, but bucket lists make me feel anxious and inadequate. And do I really need to take a cheese-making class or jump from an airplane for my life to be complete?)**
I’m old enough now to where some things will always be on my perpetual list of resolutions: live in the moment, spend more time with family, stay active, don’t wear pajamas all day, not sweat the small stuff, etc. They are things that I remind myself to do or think on a daily basis and are never checked off a list. In place of yearly resolutions is a small checklist of big picture Life goals that truly started a few years back when we decided we were both in it for the long haul. When making a big decision, when I feel envious of other peoples’ lives, when I feel like I don’t know what the hell I’m doing with my life — this list keeps me grounded and is always in the back of my mind.
Since it’s Lunar New Year’s Eve I figured I had a second shot at posting my obligatory YIP post (originally planned for earlier this month). That’s the best thing about Lunar New Year — if you miss the traditional New Year (and all those resolutions), then Lunar New Year is a good time to look back, recharge, and start over.
Happy Lunar New Year everyone!
January
After so much traveling and moving the past few years, January was a time to finally just *be* at home. We spent many weekends cozying up in our house, attempting to organize our crap, spending time with our little fuzzies, sitting by the fire, and cooking lots of good food. On a whim, we decided to brave the crowds (and the cold) and attend the presidential inauguration. Without getting into politics, it was a pretty cool experience. I have never seen more flags waving in one place in my life. At the end of January we met up with friends at a cabin in the middle of BFE Virginia and had ourselves a gut-busting meal.

I think we are getting too old for nyc – staying up til 430 am, drinking, eating and eating and eating as if it were our jobs — let’s just say it’s taken us a week to recover. A week of no working out, of being slugs, of falling asleep on the couch watching crap tv.
Today, after more laziness we ventured out for a mini date: soup dumplings and red mango ice cream. Then back home we went, back into our pjs, back to reading/playing videos/watching more junk tv/eating leftover Halloween candy (yup, still), and kitty cuddling.
We are very exciting people.
