Back in Houston for Thanksgiving–been eating a ton, and doing a lot of nothing. Doing nothing has been awesome.

Sad: our childhood cat, who is now 14 years old, has aged considerably since my dad passed away. we noticed it on our last trip out for a friends wedding. This time, we noticed her stomach was a little swollen. Everyone thought she was bloated but being I am so paranoid, I thought it was something serious. I started to feel around her stomach and noticed a squishy fluid sac and knew for sure it wasn’t normal. I convinced my mom to take her to a different vet (my last experience going to her regular vet involved putting one of my cats to sleep which was really traumatic) so I was afraid that taking her there would result in the same thing. The new vet took xrays and blood tests, but couldn’t really determine what was causing the problem. She stayed up all night researching and talking to other people and called us the next morning to tell us to go in and get a shot that would relieve some of the fluid in her stomach. Tomorrow, we have to go to A&M of all places to get a sonagram done to see what is going on in her stomach. There are a million things it could be: cancer, heart problem, thyroid problem–they don’t know. Sigh. It’s pretty sad. And even though she must be terribly sick, she doesn’t act like it–still the same sassy cat.

Happy: I conned my sister to come with me to the best kept shopping secret I know of. I feel ok sharing it because most of my shopping cohorts live in SF. People in Houston are a little less in the know so I doubt they will bombard this place like every “secret” place in SF is bombarded. Anyway, the best shopping ever is at Dilliards final clearance store in this dilapidated mall that used to be a decent place to shop growing up, but has now turned totally ghetto. Anyway, from the outside, the Dillards looks like a normal dillards. On the inside: clearance mania. You have to be really really in the mood to dig through a ton of shit because its like a Ross or Marshalls times like 10. Its literally wall to wall, rack and rack of clothes–at 75% off. Usually, they have specials for an extra 40% off that. My sister and I spent hours there yesterday combing through the stuff until we finally gave up. I walked away with like 5 scarves (perfect for SF) — not the wintery kind, but the trendier thinner kind. Retail: $48. Dillard’s price: $1.99 each. I also bought two cute dresses. Both were name brand and retailed around $250. Dillard’s price: $25-30. I really wanted to shop for NG as well because a)he has no clothes and b)all the men’s stuff was 50-60% off which means a really nice long-sleeved henly was $4. The best part of it all is that nobody goes there bc the mall is so ghetto. So there are plenty of sizes and nothing is really picked over. It’s really really awesomely cheap.

so-so sad: everyone is leaving to go home today, except me. I’ll be here til tuesday. Then I begin my nonstop travel schedule which includes my birthday in Miami w/the girls, and then a trip to sea ranch, and then back to houston. Im sad but excited.
